Phần lớn sinh viên trong lớp không tin điều đó. Họ nói điện thoại là thiết bị liên lạc và không thể thay thế cho máy tính được. Em không biết nói cái gì. Xin thầy giúp cho.”

Đáp: Ngày nay nhiều người dùng điện thoại thông minh để truy nhập vào web và điện thoại thông minh giờ được tính chiếm tới 48% việc duyệt web thay cho máy tính cá nhân. Khi số người dùng điện thoại thông minh tăng lên, nhu cầu về nhiều ứng dụng di động cũng tăng lên nhanh chóng với nhiều ứng dụng phức tạp và tinh vi. Hiện thời trên 3 tỉ người trên khắp thế giới đang dùng điện thoại thông minh và nó đã nhanh chóng tiến hoá thành thiết bị mạnh tương tự như máy laptop đơn giản nhưng sớm sẽ tốt như máy tính cá nhân đầy đủ chức năng.

Một số người không nghĩ điện thoại thông minh có thể thay thế cho máy tính cá nhân vì nó quá nhỏ không tiện gõ vào. Điều họ không biết là bàn phím đang trở nên lỗi thời vì công nghệ đã đổi sang công nghệ mới: Nhận dạng tiếng nói. Một người nghiên cứu điện thoại di động giải thích: “Sao bận tâm tới gõ khi bạn có thể nói với điện thoại thông minh? Một số người không nghĩ điện thoại thông minh có thể thay thế cho máy tính cá nhân vì nó có bộ nhớ giới hạn và không thể lưu giữ tài liệu, ảnh, trò chơi, app, email, nhạc, video v.v. Điều họ không biết là với tính toán mây, mọi thứ trong tương lai sẽ được lưu trong mây và có thể được truy nhập bằng điện thoại thông minh cho nên việc lưu giữ không còn là vấn đề.

Trong tương lai gần, điện thoại thông minh sẽ thay thế cho nhiều thứ không chỉ máy tính cá nhân. Chẳng hạn, bạn không cần dùng thẻ tín dụng, viết séc hay đem mang tiền vì bạn có thể trả trực tiếp bằng việc chuyển tiền từ ngân hàng của bạn cho tài khoản của người bán bằng việc dùng điện thoại thông minh của bạn. Điện thoại thông minh sẽ là “bác sĩ trong túi” của bạn vì nó sẽ đo nhịp tim của bạn, mạch của bạn, nhiệt độ thân thể bạn, đường máu của bạn (trong trường hợp bị tiểu đường), mức tiêu thụ ca lo của bạn, và các hoạt động khác và cho bạn biết về tình trạng của sức khoẻ của bạn và liệu bạn cần tới bác sĩ khám hay không (dấu hiệu cảnh báo về đau tim hay đột quị v.v.)

Tôi tin máy tính để bàn và laptop vẫn sẽ có chỗ trong văn phòng nhưng điện thoại thông minh sẽ là lực chi phối trong tương lai. Là sinh viên, bạn cần học về phát triển ứng dụng di động và quen thuộc với Android, IOS, và Window 8 bởi vì phần lớn việc làm phần mềm sẽ hội tụ vào những nền này.

Blog1583- Smartphone

A student wrote to me: “We had a discussion in class about technology and I cited your blog about smartphone will replaced personal computer. Most of students in class did not believe it. They said the phone is a communication device and cannot replace a computer. I did not know what to say. Please help.”

Answer: Today more people are using smartphones to access the web and smartphones are now accounted for 48% of web browsing instead of personal computer. As the number of smartphones users increases, the need for more mobile application is also increasing fast with more sophisticated and complex applications. Currently over 3 billion people around the world are using smartphones and it has rapidly evolved into powerful devices similar to a simple laptop but soon it will be as good as a fully functional personal computer.

Some people do not think smartphone could replace the personal computer as it is too small for typing. What they do not know is keyboard is becoming obsolete as technology already changes to the next technology: Voice recognition. A mobile phone researcher explains: “Why bother typing when you can talk to smartphone? With voice technology the smartphone will convert what you say into a full written text. You can review it; make correction by your voice before send it as text message or email to somebody. Of course, if you still prefer to type, there are keyboard with wireless technology that connect to your smartphone and turn whatever you type into a full written text.

Some people do not think smartphone could replace the personal computer as it has a small screen which is difficult to see. What they do not know is screen will be getting smaller to be displayed directly in the eyeglass using head-up displays (HUDs) like Google Glass and similar devices.

Some people do not think smartphone could replace the personal computer as it has limited memory and cannot store documents, photos, games, apps, emails, music, video etc. What they do not know is with cloud computing, everything in the future will be stored in a cloud and can be accessed by smartphone so storage is no longer a problem.

In the near future smartphone will replace many things not just personal computer. For example, you do not need to use credit cards, write check or bring money as you can pay directly by transfer money from your bank to the merchant’s account using your smartphone. The smartphone will be your “Doctor in the pocket” as it will measure your heart rate, your pulse, your body temperature, your blood glucose (In case of diabetes), your calories consumption, and other activities and let you know about the status of your health and whether you need to go to see a doctor (Warning sign for a heart attack or stroke etc.)

I believe desktop and laptop computers will still have a place in offices but smartphone will be the dominant force in the future. As students, you need to learn about developing mobile application and be familiar with Android, IOS, and Window 8 because most software jobs will be focusing on these platforms.
